Jáchymov is the first radon spa in the world. The spa has an outstanding position in the treatment of locomotory system illnesses due to the basic treatment instrument-the radon mineral waters. This natural medium with high content of radioactive gas radon, a source of soft alpha rays, has a strong overall influence on human body. Just the treatment in the form of overall baths has a clear anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect and brings patients long-term pain relief.
The spa lies in the deep and forrestful valley in the hight above sea level about 650-720 m. The Svornost mining pit represents an integral part of the Jáchymov spa. This is the place where the radon waters are collected and then brought to the spa-facilities down town. The radon baths apparently improve the mobility of joints, raise the immunity of the body, rectify the blood pressure values and promote the blood circulation. The 20-minute baths are administered in he temperature of 35-37 °C. Eighteen baths is the minimum number to reach the therapeutic effect, the maximum number of baths per stay is 24. A very important part of the treatment programme is the active rehabilitation care, administered by trained physiotherapists following the most recents methods. In addition, several kinds of hydrotherapy, physical therapy and various types of massage are used. For patients with severe affliction of the locomotive system there is the brachyradium therapy, a special radiation therapy called also the “Jáchymov Boxes”. It is he minimal anti-inflammatory and analgesic dose of gamma rays, the source of which are the radium salts. The city offers also a wide range of activities for leisure times.The sport activities : Nordic walking, tennis, mountain bikes, pool and fitness center, sauna, minigolf, chess, table skittes, petangue, parlour games. Trips in the surroundings: Boží dar- the city with the highest attitude, winter sport center, Nejdek- city with castle, Pernink- Skicentre, Horní Blatná- cave Vlčí Jámy, Ostrov nad Ohrí- castle park from the 16- th century, Klášterec nad Ohrí- pseudogotic castle, collection of farmed porcelain.
The Spa Hotel**** was built in 1975. The building with 6 storeys above ground and 3 underground is an eye-catching dominant towering above the valley of Jáchymov. From all its terraces and balconies it offers a breathtaking view of the Ore Mountains panorama. A speciality of this sanatorium is the „divanery“ for the arabic clientele. The accomodation capacity of the Spa Hotel is 320 beds in single and double rooms, 6 of them are suited for wheel-chair patients. It offers also 4 comfortable suites. All the rooms have a blacony, a bathroom with shower or bathtub, WC, TV with satellite programmes, a refrigerator and a telephone. There is a non-stop in-house medical service. The meals –breakfasts, lunches and dinners are served in two spacious rooms. At service to guests there is a café and a lobby bar with rich selection of refreshments, large community hll, lounges, table-tennis gym, billiard room. Entertain-ment programmes, dance evenings and concerts take place in the community hall. For catching the sun in summer months there is a spacious sundeck on the roof with a great panoramic view, equiped with shower and lounge chairs. The clients can use the swimming pool, library, hair-dresser, beauty parlour, chirodopist, and after a medical consultation even a well equipped fitness centre and sauna.
The price of accomodation includes accomodation with breakfast. The price of a relaxation stay includes accomodation, fullboard, initial and leaving medical examination, laboratory examination, 1x radoncure, 9 procedurs. The price of a curative stay includes accomodation, full board, initial and leaving medical examination, curative 21-30 procedures weekly.
