Karlovy Vary is the largest and best-known bath resort in the Czech republic. The fame of Karlovy Vary has spread into the whole world thanks to its mineral springs. Twelve of about one hundred mineral springs are used in the drinking cure. There is possibility for treatment of the locomotive system disorders, diabetes, obesity, disorders of the vesica, respiratory, metabolic, gynaecological, oncological disorders. Karlovy Vary is located not far off the Czech-german border, the distance between the town and Prague, the Czech capital is 125 km. The city, or the city´s spa centre, which is the most attractive from the visitors´pont-of-view, is situated around the meandering Teplá river. The basic compositions of the mineral springs are similar but hey differ in temperature and the amount of carbon dioxide, and that is why their effects are different as well. The colder springs usually have a slightly purgative effect while the warmer ones make the production of bile and stomach juices slower. The colonnades are built for the purposes of quiet walking associated with drinking of thermal water, they are the centres of meetings of people walking in the fresh air. The famoust colonnades are: The Hot Spring, The Market, and the Mill Colonnade. The Spa procedures are carried out in Spas III, V and VI and individual spas. The natural curing sources of mineral water, carbon dioxide, and peat moss from Krasno near Karlovy Vary are used for treatment procedures. To the procedures belong: baths, heat procedures, massages, hydrotherapy, physiatrics, therapeutic gymnastics, other procedures. Karlovy vary has made a name for itself also with specialities as: Moser glass, bitter-sweet bitters Karlovarská becherovka, known as “the thirteenth spring”, is the most original speciality, Karlsbad Wafers, Carlsbad china ranks among the specialities that have made Carlsbad famous all around the world.
